Ian Hutchinson secures Macau pole

Ian Hutchinson has taken pole for the Macau Grand Prix, after beating Michael Rutter by just five hundredths of a second. Both riders improved on their qualifying one times, but for Rutter it was not by enough to secure his provisional pole. Hutchinson, who is returning after a 18 month recovery period, snatched pole away on his penultimate lap, improving on his provisional fourth place.

Elsewhere, Ben Wylie came off his bike at Fishermen’s Bend, and reports state that despite being taken away in an ambulance he did not need to go to hospital. He was fortunate not to hit the wall. Fishermen’s Bend is where Luis Filipe de Sousa Carreira sadly had a fatal accident during qualifying for last year’s Macau Grand Prix.

Along with Rutter and Hutchinson, most other riders improved their times from qualifying 1, apart from Martin Jessopp, James Storrar, Jeremy Toye and David Johnson. The three riders who had fallen outside qualification maxima during qualifying 1 also improved enough to secure their places on the grid.

The top ten in qualifying two were as follows:

  1. Ian Hutchinson 2:25.568
  2. Michael Rutter 2:25.625
  3. John McGuinness 2:27.447
