Michael and William Dunlop have been confirmed for the sixth annual Armoy Road Races this summer. This year’s event, which was officially launched in Portballintrae on Wednesday, will be held on the 25th and 26th of July.
The Dunlops – along with cousins Paul Robinson and Sam Dunlop – are amongst a host of road racing stars confirmed to take to the 3.03 mile long track. William Dunlop’s Tyco Suzuki team-mate Guy Martin, along with Wilson Craig’s Jamie Hamilton, and KMR’s Connor Behan will also be racing. Moto GP star Danny Webb, who made his road racing debut at the TT earlier this month, will also take to the Armoy roads, racing for KMR Kawasaki in the Supertwins class.
Last year’s races featured a number of different winners, but it was the Dunlop brothers who dominated the day with two wins each. William Dunlop won the Supersport race – beating brother Michael, and Guy Martin – breaking the lap record on the way. He was also victorious in the 250cc race. Michael Dunlop won both Superbike races – including the Race of Legends – and in doing so created another lap record. Other winners included Christian Elkin, Jamie Hamilton, and Mark Hanna.
At the TT, Michael Dunlop once again won four races – bringing his overall tally to 11 – while William Dunlop had a crash in the Senior TT, causing him to break his leg. He has revealed that he hopes to be racing at the Skerries on July 5th, as he tries to get fit ahead of the third International road race of the year – the Ulster Grand Prix. Elsewhere, Guy Martin is still searching for his first win around the Armoy, a track which he has said he really enjoys riding in the past.
The race will once again be sponsored by RiverRidge Recycling and this year Corporate Hospitality packages are being offered for the first time.
