Guy Martin retains Solo Championship at Southern 100

Guy Martin has retained the Solo Championship at the Southern 100.

The Tyco Suzuki rider, who won the feature race last year and in 2009, beat form man Dean Harrison and Dan Kneen. He crossed the line just six tenths of a second ahead of Harrison, who set a new lap record.

In the first action of the day Frank Gallagher beat Joe Newbould and Anthony Redmond in the 600cc B race. In the second 600cc race Harrison secured his fourth win of the meeting when he beat Martin and Kneen, replicating the podium from last night’s race in the same class. Brian Kelly and Jason O’Conner were victorious in the Sidecar Consolation Race, beating the pairings of Horst Walczak & Andrew Miller, and John Chandler & Dicky Gale.

Win number five for Harrison came in the Supertwin race, beating James Cowton by a whisker as the pair crossed the line together. The result was declared as Harrison being ahead by just 0.001 seconds. The duo were joined on the podium by Dean’s brother Adrian Harrison. Alistair Haworth added another win to his tally by winning the 125/400cc race. He was once again joined on the podium by Dave Corlett and Dave Taylor. Tom Snow was the first 125 home, beating Paul Robinson and Chris McGahan.

The Sidecar Championship race was won by TT victor Conrad Harrison partnered by Jason Crowe. They beat Dave Molyneux and Benjamin Binns by nearly two seconds. The race was red flagged after the chequered flag had been shown for the first two so the results for the rest of the competitors were declared from lap seven, giving Wayne Lockey and Mark Sayers third. The final race of the meeting was the Senior Consolation Support race won by Mike Moulai. He was joined on the podium by Andrew Sellars and Davide Ansaldi.

A number of riders will be heading to Walderstown at the weekend for the next road racing action.
