TAS Racing has confirmed the news that they will become the official BMW team for 2015, running under the banner of Tyco BMW with five riders on board.
Guy Martin and William Dunlop are both continuing with the team after a successful year on the roads with them in 2014. They will race at the big three International road races – the North West 200, Isle of Man TT, and Ulster Grand Prix – as well as at a number of selected national races. The team previously ran with Suzukis and both riders are looking forward to riding BMWs. “Moving to BMW Motorrad is an exciting change and one I’m looking forward to,” Dunlop revealed. “We all saw what the BMW S1000 RR was capable of achieving this season, so with the expertise of the guys at TAS Racing, I’m pretty sure we can do a good job in 2015. I got my first international Superbike win last year and I’d really like more next year as it’s the class to do it in. We have a top team and I’m happy to be working with Guy again at the TT, where I think together we can be even stronger with this exciting new package.” William Dunlop’s brother, Michael, rode BMW S 1000 RRs at the TT last year, with the manufacturer entering to celebrate the 75th anniversary of their TT win with Georg Meier. He won four races – including the Senior TT – and enjoyed further success throughout the year.
Dunlop will once again be joined at the team by Guy Martin who first rode for TAS in 2011. He finished third in the Senior TT in 2014 but is still chasing elusive first wins at the TT and North West 200. “Moving to BMW Motorrad machinery is the reason I’m still racing next year and not retiring,” Martin said of the deal. “I’ll always give it my all and to be with a quality manufacturer like BMW is mega. I’m looking forward to getting on the bikes as soon as possible. It’s a new bike and I’ve never ridden it before, but we all know its pedigree. TAS are the best team I’ve ever ridden for; they get me and I get them and we meet in the middle, which is why we’ve been successful and this new venture with BMW is just what we need going into next season.”
The duo will be joined by Alistair Seeley at the North West 200, who will also race in the Pirelli National Superstock class in 2015 for Tyco BMW. Completing the line-up for the team are Michael Laverty and Tommy Bridewell riding in the BSB. “We put a lot of thought into our rider line up for 2015 and as always the goal is to win races both in British championship and also at International level on the roads,” Team Manager Philip Neil explained. “We fully expect to be championship contenders in British Superbike and the National Superstock class next season. On the roads I’ve every confidence that William and Guy will also benefit from riding top class Tyco BMW machinery”.
“It really is a great honour for TAS Racing to be chosen by BMW Motorrad to spearhead their official racing efforts in 2015,” he continued. “Everyone involved has been very supportive in helping us put the correct package together. As part of our agreement with BMW Motorrad, we will have full support from the factory both technically and personnel-wise next season to help us achieve our goals.”
