Rob Austin is currently competing in his second season of the British Touring Car Championship, racing an Audi A4 for his own team Rob Austin Racing. He has previously raced in the likes of the Formula Renault UK championship, British F3 and also the Ginetta Sportscar Championship, where he came second overall in 2008. It would be fair to say that his season has been a bit hit and miss, and there have been highs and lows aplenty. He currently lies 12th in the main championship and 11th in the Independents’ championship, not far off breaking into the top ten with both of them. Here we take a closer look at his season so far and what the fans say!
The 2012 British Touring Car Championship
The season got off to a solid start with an eighth place and two fifths at Brands Hatch with a completely contrasting weekend at Donington Park following it up. An engine problem forced Austin to retire from race one and he was then unable to complete race two and race three. Thruxton was a mixed weekend of results with only one points scoring finish. Austin then sat out Oulton Park where he was replaced by Will Bratt, who made a promising debut for the team. Austin returned for Croft where he had his best weekend of the year so far with a fifth, third, and seventh place finish – his first podium of the season! It was a close battle throughout the race but Austin eventually finished in a well deserved third. Despite the ups and downs, Rob Austin and his team never give up, and continue to fight whether it be for points or not.

Can Rob Austin take his maiden win in the British Touring Car Championship this season? With the long gap between Croft and Snetterton there is plenty of time to prefer for the latter stages of the championship. It would definitely be great to see Rob back on the podium and breaking into the top ten in the championships.
