Kimi Raikkonen, Lotus and the April Fools

On 1st April 2012 (aka April Fools Day) the Lotus F1 team posted a rather convincing story that suggested Kimi Räikkönen’s steering issues had been down to him being left handed, and so they had changed all of the controls around on his steering wheel to make it better suited to him using his left hand for the ‘more important switches’. A quick Google image search brings up a number of pictures of Kimi that suggest he is in fact right handed [see below picture]:

However, the joke proved to be so convincing that some websites (not naming names) ran with it as a story, and even now, more than a week later, it is still appearing. In fairness, it was a convincing joke by the Lotus team , however it just demonstrates how untrue ‘news’ can spread just as fast as the true. Just search ‘Kimi Räikkönen signing autographs’ and it brings up a number of pictures in which Kimi is signing with his right hand.

Moral of the story? Don’t believe everything you read.

PS. Kudos to Lotus for the original and convincing April Fools joke though.
